When I started trying to make a picture for every Psalm, I had only a tiny bit of experience felting and absolutely no training in art. Now I have a teeny bit more experience and still no training in art. But I have been reading as much as I can and trying out different ideas and styles. This isn't my favorite style, but it was really fun.
I based this piece on Psalm 24, verses 3-4: Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place? The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god. When I was young, I loved Amy Grant. LOVED her. Her songs were my connection to a world that was so beautiful and full of God. For me, it was like ascending the mountain of the Lord. And one of her songs was called "Mountain Top". The words say, "But I've got to come down from that mountain top/ To the people in the valley below/ Or they'll never know that they can go/ To the mountain of the Lord." Amy's words about the mountaintop echo those of the Psalmist and tell of an experience that words can't describe. If you have been there, you know. And when I think of mountain tops, I am reminded of God revealing His glory to Moses. So much glory that Moses had to hide; God couldn't show all of Himself. His glory was too great. And so it goes with God. There is a mountaintop, and He invites us there to experience glory that is too much for human eyes to behold. Today may you climb your own mountain and stand in His holy place and experience His glory. Psalm 24 (NIV) 1 The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; 2 for he founded it on the seas and established it on the waters. 3 Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place? 4 The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god. 5 They will receive blessing from the Lord and vindication from God their Savior. 6 Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek your face, God of Jacob. 7 Lift up your heads, you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. 8 Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle. 9 Lift up your heads, you gates; lift them up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. 10 Who is he, this King of glory? The Lord Almighty-- he is the King of glory.
